Valley Village senior citizens are taking the lead on a
challenge that will be the greatest our children will face: Clean
Energy.
Our solar installation was a cooperative project of Valley Village,
Silicon Valley Power, The City of Santa Clara and members of the local
business community. Grants from Silicon Power, Intel, Yahoo, California
Paperboard, Equinix and local businesses provided funding to install
the solar panels. The residents of Valley Village have benefited from
steadily declining electric power costs during a period when most of
California has been suffering from an energy crisis. Below is a list of
retrofit projects completed in recent years:
- 2008 - Energy Saving lighting in common areas and on
campus
- Energy
Efficient boilers, chillers, and cooling towers
-
Computerized tools for Energy Savings
- 2007 - Solar Electric Panels - Building 1
- 2003 - New natural gas energy saving hot water heaters
- 2002 - New efficient walk-in refrigerator/freezer for
dining program
Valley Village Retirement Community is a single
facility, non-profit organization that pays all utilities and
passes on all savings to senior residents.
