Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Can I use the Clinic if I am a Kaiser or a Secure Horizons (etc.) member.

A. Any Valley Village resident can make use of clinic services, at no cost to the resident: The only exception to the "no charge" policy is when a resident has on-going medication needs. In that case, we require that the resident provide the needed medication. Actual administration is free.

Q. What can the nurse do for me in the Clinic?

A. Basically, anything the nurse in you doctor's office can do. This includes such things as dressing changes, ear washed, medication administration (limited), suture and staple removals, health education, nutrition counseling and patient advocacy. Some of these services may require written orders from your Primary Care Physician. The Supervising RN of the Clinic will assist in obtaining needed orders. Many of the services have already been pre-approved by our Medical Director, Dr. Paul Jackson. If you are unsure about whether or not something can be done, just call the Resident Services Center. Our Clinic License requires that all services be performed within the Clinic Hours of Monday-Friday,10:00am to 2:OOpm.

Q. Why would I want to see Dr. Jackson when I have my own Doctor?

A. Since Dr. Paul Jackson, our Medical Director, is only in the Clinic twice a month for four hours at a time, he is there to provide short-term, interim care. Perhaps you have a medical question or problem you don't think is serious, he can provide you with his opinion and recommendations. He may also contact your physician if necessary. If you are uncertain as to the appropriateness of seeing Dr. Jackson in a particular instance, feel free to call the Clinic RN for advice and an appointment. You may also check with any of the nurses-they also know what is appropriate.

Q. How do I get started?

A. Call or come in to the Resident Services Center and schedule an appointment. You will be asked a few basic questions and will sign a standard consent form that allows us to see you in the Primary Care Clinic. A medical record will be started for you and available each time you come in. If you are unsure whether you need care, the nurses will check you anytime and schedule you.

Q. What if I am having trouble getting my HMO or Doctor to listen to me and what I need?

A. One of the primary roles of any licensed nurse is advocacy, which simply means we try to help you get what you need from the medical and social communities. We fully understand how difficult this process has become and we want you to call us if you are having problems.
